Un de mes sujets favoris: un auto-portrait. Depuis que j'ai installé un miroir en face de mon bureau, j'ai à la disposition un modèle, patient, et, surtout, qui ne se plaint pas du résultat.
Je suis plutôt satisfait de portrait-ci; j'ai l'impression d'y être plus beau qu'en réalité!

One of my favorite subjects: a self-portrait. Since I installed a mirror in front of my desk, I have a model available, patient, and, especially, who does not complain about the result. I am rather satisfied with this portrait; I have the impression it makes me nicer than I actually am!

Dessin de contours - Contour drawing

Entre deux peintures ou deux dessins plus élaborés, j'aime revenir aux base, avec ces dessins de contours, effectués directement à l'encre. C'est un bon exercice, surtout pour les dessinateurs débutants et il ne nécessite pas beaucoup de matériel: un marqueur et une feuille. Personnellement, je préfère éviter d'utiliser du papier de bonne qualité. Pour ce genre de dessin, j'utilise du papier-photocopie ou le dos d'une enveloppe. Je peux ainsi dessiner librement, sans peur de rater mon dessin.

Mais le principal intérêt de ces dessins est de se vider l'esprit, ne penser à rien pendant quelques instant; une forme de méditation.

Between two painting or two more worked out drawings, I like to come back to basics, with these outline drawings, performed directly in ink. It is a good exercise, especially for the beginners and it does not require a lot of tools: a marker and a paper leaf. Personally, I prefer avoiding using some good quality paper. For this type of drawings, I use some photocopy-paper or the back of an envelope. I can so draw freely, without the fear to miss my drawings.

But the main interest of these drawings is to empty my mind, to think of nothing during some instants; a form of meditation.

Je ne suis que moyennement satisfait de cette aquarelle, surtout pour le choix des couleurs et le dessin du visage. Mais, une choses est sûre, tout dans ce dessin est de moi: la photo de départ, la composition, le choix des couleurs, les erreurs et même le modèle ;-) Et c'est pourquoi je l'aime, malgré ses défauts.

I am only partially satisfied with this watercolor, especially for the choice of the colors and the drawing of the face. But, one thing is sure, all in this drawing is of me: the original photograph, the composition, the choice of the colors, the errors and even the model ; -) And this is why I like it, in spite of its defects.

While looking at an older drawing of apples that I liked very much, I wanted to draw apples again. A search on Internet of "Apple" returned mainly photographs of computers and MP3 readers!

Après quelques mois d'inactivité pendant les vacances, ce blog reprend enfin vie. Certains d'entre vous se sont déjà inquiétés. Rassurez-vous, tout va bien et j'ai continué à m'amuser et à dessiner.

After a few month of inactivity, during the holidays, this blog is alive again. Some of you already got worried. Don't worry, I'm fine and I continued having a good time and drawing.

Conté

Dessin au carré conté, sur papier blanc à grain.

Je me suis inspiré d'une photo dans un magazine. Pour me faciliter la tâche et m'aider à garder les proportions correctes, j'ai dessiné une grille sur la photo et sur mon papier. Si vous regarder bien le dessin, vous pourrez peut-être encore y voir la grille, dessinée au crayon 2H. Pour adoucir les traits du visage et les ombres des cheveux, j'ai utilisé un coton-tige avec lequel j'ai fait entrer les pigments dans le grain du papier.

J'aime varier les sujets et les techniques. Chacune de mes expérience enrichit mon savoir faire.

I took as a starting point a photograph in a magazine. To ease the task and help me to keep the correct proportions, I drew a grid on the photograph and on my paper. If you look closer at the drawing, you can see the grid, drawn with a 2H pencil. To soften the face and the shades of the hair, I used a cotton bud and I pushed the pigments into the grain of the paper.

I like to vary the subjects and the drawing techniques. Each of my experiments enriches my drawing skills.

An unknon building in Berlin

Lors de mon dernier séjours à Berlin. Je n'ai pas eu le temps de dessiner ce batiment. J'en ai pris une photo et je l'ai dessiné plus tard.
C'est sans aucun doute plus amusant de le dessiner sur place, mais comment faire quand on est accompagné d'autres personnes?

When I was in Berlin, I did not have the time to draw this building. I took a photo and I have drawn it later. Without any doubt, it is funnier to draw it directly, but how can you do it when you are visiting with other persons?

7 things about myself....

I've been tagged by Marie-dom. I have tell 7 things about myself, unusual, or a habit or things that people don't know.

1. My favorite dish is ox thong; 'langue de boeuf sauce madère' in french. I really love it. Do you eat this in the U.S. or in other countries?
2. I am a champion of stone skipping. I trained a lot when I was a child and now I teach it to my children.
   
3. I stopped drinking sodas on new years eve two year ago. Since then, I never drinked any lemonade or cola. At first, it was for health reasons, but since then I never missed them and they do not taste me anymore.
   
4. I always wear a pen in my pocket, in case I find a few free minutes and a piece of paper to draw.
5. I like to walk or run in the nature in the evening, between the day and the night, when everything is so quiet: no wind, no animal cry. A glimpse of paradise.
6. I have a heart of craftsman. I like to make things myself. I worked a lot in our old house and our garden. I even made wooden cupboards.
7. When I was young, I was scout chief during 7 years. I really liked it. 15 years later, I enjoy animating the birthdays of my children, with their friends. I even animate birthdays of other children, just for my pleasure.

Souvenirs de Bretagne

Comme l'année passée et l'année précédente, nous sommes partis en Bretagne pour les vacances de Pâques. Au même endroit. C'est pourquoi en regardant le croquis suivant vous aurez peut-être une impression de Déjà-vu!

Like last year and the year previous, we went to Brittany for our Easter holidays. At the same place. This is why by looking at the following sketch you will perhaps have an impression of Déjà-Vu!

Le choix de ma perspective dépend surtout du confort du siège que je peux utiliser. Pour le dessin précédent, j'étais assis sur un banc et le dessin suivant est une vue de la terrasse, ensoleillée et à l'abris du vent.

The choice of my prospect depends especially on the comfort of the seat I can use. For the previous drawing, I sat on a bench and the following drawing is a sight of the terrace, sunny and protected from the wind.

Et bien sûr pas de bonnes vacances en France sans bouteille de vin. français, bien sûr!

And, of course, no good holidays in France without a bottle of wine...french wine, of course!

These two drawing are a challenge. I am drawing my children while they are drawing me.

Pour ces dessins, j'ai utilisé un marqueur pinceau Faber-Castell PITT artist pen noir, taille B. Et deux marqueurs-pinceaux Tombow gris.

For these drawings, I used a black Faber-Castell PITT artist pen, (size B) and two grey Tombow brush pens.

Challenge 109: une horloge - a clock

C'est un sujet que j'ai déjà dessiné dans un challenge précédent (dans le coin en haut, à gauche). La montre en bois est un souvenir ramené de Greenwich Village, Manhattan, il y a plus de 10 ans. Pour remplir le dessin j'ai rajouté une petite montre, qui traîne sur mon bureau et qui est sensée me rappeler de ne pas aller dormir trop tard.

I have already drawn this subject, one year ago, for another challenge (in the top left corner). The wooden watch is a souvenir from Greenwich Village, Manhattan, that I brought back more than ten years ago. In order to fill the drawing, I added the small clock, which sits on my desk and which should remind me to go to sleep not too late.
